Support for Alzheimer's Research 2017

For a number of years, the McCusker Alzheimer's Research Foundation has been a major beneficiary of Karrinyup Rotary Club Community Service.  Ellaine Hislop, representing the renamed Australian Alzheimer's Research Foundation, recently attended a meeting to receive a donation from the club and give an update on recent developments in research.

Amy Delegate to Canberra

Local girl Amy is the RC Karrinyup nominee for the RAIC Australia 2017 (Rotary Adventure in Citizenship). Amy, a student of St Mary's Anglican Girls School, attended a recent meeting of the Club along with her Politics and Law teacher Alison and mum Anna. We all wish you a wonderful adventure in Canberra Amy!

Support for Foodbank WA 2017

Since the very inception of our club over forty years ago, RC Karrinyup has been a strong supporter of Foodbank WA. This week, Foodbank CEO Greg Hebble attended our meeting, where he was greeted by President Trish and Community Service Committee member David. Call for Nominations Michael Chin Humanitarian Award for 2016

Nominations are called for the Michael Chin Humanitarian Award for 2016. The Award was created in 2000 to acknowledge an outstanding individual for ongoing humanitarian activities in the community. If a worthy recipient is found the award is presented the following May. Do you know anyone who should be nominated for this award? Nominations close 10th March.

RYE 2017 Outbound to Japan

Youth Director Robyn introduced Matthew, the Rotary Club of Karrinyup 2017 Outbound Rotary Youth Exchange student, who was leaving the very next day to stay in Fukuoka, Japan for a year. Matt told a little about himself and his expectations for his exchange year. At the conclusion of his presentation, Robyn presented Matt with his Australian blazer on behalf of the club. Matt has now arrived to a warm welcome in his host District.

April and Adi Attend NYSF

The Club has two students attending the National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) this year. Adi and April, both Year 12 students at Warwick Senior High School, were both selected late last year. Adi is currently in Canberra and is attending Session A, while April will be attending Session C in the latter half of January. They will attend a meeting on their return to relate their experiences.

SFM Food Donations for Homeless

Passages Resource Centre assists marginalised homeless and troubled youth in Perth. For the past few months many stallholders at the weekly Stirling Farmers Market, organised and run by the Rotary Club of Karrinyup, have been generously donating fruit, vegetables, bread, eggs, meat and cooking oil at the conclusion of the market. This produce is being used by Passages staff and the youth to cook nutritional soups and meals for those accessing the Centre.

A Vision Realized

Over three years ago, Professor Harvey Coates AO, Clinical Patron, Earbus Foundation of WA, envisaged a mobile 'go anywhere' clinic capable of travelling to remote areas of the northwest of Western Australia. For patients unable to travel to a town clinic, it was necessary to take the clinic to them in the battle against the exceedingly high incidence of ear disease among the population of that area. Professor Coates is thrilled that, thanks to the efforts of the RC Karrinyup, this vision has now become a reality.

Earbus Project Completed

The Earbus has been completed and informally handed over to the Earbus Foundation. The vehicle will now go through operational trials to ensure the design is fit for purpose and any issues found during the field trials will be adjusted.  Finally, the vehicle will be transformed with an appropriate Aboriginal livery for its work in the field before the formal handover takes place in the New Year.  On behalf of the thousands of Aboriginal children, who will benefit from this asset, thank you to all our generous donors. The RC Karrinyup is honoured to have been part of this journey with you.
