2017 Michael Chin Humanitarian Award

A highlight of the RC Karrinyup birthday celebration is the presentation of the Michael Chin Humanitarian Award. This is one of the club's highest honours and is given to recognise outstanding individuals, who serve the community. President Elect Phil, helped by Michael's widow Sylvia and son Anthony, made the preseentation this year to Riding for the Disabled Association WA (Carine) stalwart Mark Lloyd.

2017 Nurse of the Year Award

Each year, RC Karrinyup acknowledges a dedicated worker from the Osborne Park Hospital. At the recent 43 birthday celebrations, Vocational Service Director Nick introduced Anne McDonald, who for 23 years has been the Clinical Nurse Manager for several surgical services at Osborne Park Hospital. Anne is this year's recipient of the Nurse of the Year Award.

Support for Wheelchairs for Kids 2017

Wheelchairs for Kids is a project of the Rotary Club of Scarborough, which produces up to 350 wheelchairs a month for disabled children all over the world. These are produced to WHO standards at the workshop in Wangara. At our meeting this week, International Committee member Udo presented Wheelchairs for Kids CEO Gordon with Rotary Club of Karrinyup's annual donation. Gordon gave us a short update on the recent milestones of the project.

Celebrating Rotary Youth Exchange in 2017

RC Karrinyup Inbound exchange student, Hannah from Germany, together with Past President Carolyn, recently attended a reception at Parliament House to celebrate the wonderful Rotary Youth Exchange Program. The event was organised by the Rotary Club of Matilda Bay. Rotary Exchange Students travelled from all over the state of Western Australia including Kununurra, Esperance and from Albany for the occasion.

RC Karrinyup Welcomes New Member Kay

At our recent meeting, the Rotary Club of Karrinyup (District 9455) was delighted to induct new member Kay. Having served the community in many capacities all her life and having been a part of the Rotary family for many years, membership was almost a natural progression for Kay.  A longstanding supporter of Rotary Club of Karrinyup (District 9455), Kay was recognised with a Paul Harris Fellow in 2014 in appreciation of her huge commitment to Rotary Youth Exchange.

Anzac Day 2017

Rotary Club of Karrinyup (District 9455) was well represented at the North Beach Anzac Day Dawn Service with President Trish and members of our Community Services Committee and partners attending.  Also there with her Host Family was our Inbound Rotary Youth Exchange student, Hannah, from Germany.  Other club members attended services at King's Park and elsewhere. Thank You For Mooro Country Project

Recently the Wadjak Northside Community Group hosted a tour of Lake Gwelup Mooro Country for members of our club, as a thank you for the seating facility. The tour started with an introduction at the Lake Gwelup seating facility showing us the Lake Gwelup Reserve from a traditional Aboriginal perspective. On a perfect autumn day, members shared a truly delightful morning with the lovely Wadjak, people concluding with a delicious morning tea featuring produce from the Australian bush.

Earbus Handover & Launch

Members of RC Karrinyup turned out in force for the handover and launch of WA’s first community-funded mobile ear clinic at the Stirling Farmers’ Market. The completed Earbus is the realization of a dream for Professor Harvey Coates AO, Clinical Patron, Earbus Foundation of WA, who three years ago envisaged a mobile 'go anywhere' clinic, capable of travelling to remote areas of the northwest of Western Australia. Thanks to the passionate 'fund, design and build' campaign of the RC Karrinyup, this dream has now become a reality.

Specsavers Support RC Karrinyup

Specsavers stores across Australia are committed to supporting the communities that support them. Each store is locally owned and operated by community-based optometrists, who elect a local charity, along with The Fred Hollows Foundation, to support through the Specsavers Community Program, with funds donated out of their own pockets for every pair of glasses sold. SpecSavers Karrinyup has elected to nominate the RC Karrinyup as their ‘Charity of Choice’

New Beach Shelter for Trigg Surf Club

RC Karrinyup has once again supported the Trigg Island Surf Lifesaving Club in the dedicated and amazing work they do in the local community down at Trigg Beach. Our club has enjoyed a long-standing and close relationship with the surf club and has recently funded the purchase of a large beach shelter., thus building on previous donations for rescue vehicles and equipment, such as an Oxy Viva unit, over the years and furthering the relationship between the two clubs.
