A Roof Over Their Heads

“My Home” is an extraordinary and immediate response to the housing crisis. Eighteen small low impact homes in Fremantle have now been completed to the 'Lock up' stage with vulnerable residents due to move in in May 2023. They will house women over 55, who would otherwise be homeless. Recently this amazing project received some well deserved media coverage on the evening news. Karrinyup Rotary has made significant contributions to the project. View the news segment..

President Elect Kay Durrant introduced Paul Ward, WA Committee Chair of The Pinnacle Foundation. Paul believes that given the opportunity, everyone has the potential to succeed. The Pinnacle Foundation provides educational andd vocational support as well as mentoring opportunities to young Australians, for whom their gender identity or sexual orientation characteristics have prevented achievement of their career aspirations or personal development. The Pinnacle Foundation offers hope for these young people. This Vocational Service project comes under the RI and RC Karrinyup strategy of Diversity and Inclusion.

Nominations are called for the RC Karrinyup 2023 Michael Chin Humanitarian Award. Individuals living or undertaking volunteer humanitarian activities within the City of Stirling area may be nominated with the intent that the recipient be local to the Rotary Club of Karrinyup. In Vocational Service month we welcomed Irene Walker, Executive Officer of the Apprentice Employment Network WA, (AEN WA) the peak employer association representing Member Group Training Organisations in WA and a Registered Not for Profit Charity. Irene described the work of AEN WA and introduced club members to Karrinyup Rotary's, wonderful new partnership with AEN WA, providing practical support for top apprentices/trainees in five important categories. Irene introduced three award recipients, who explained how the club's support had assisted their purchase of essential tools of trade.
Read more...Back to School Grant for Displaced Persons

The Karrinyup Rotary Youth Service team established a ‘Back to School 2023’ grant to assist children of Ukrainian Displaced persons living in Western Australia. Its purpose is to help cover the expenses of funding their back-to-school requirements for 2023. Families can apply for a grant of $200 for local children, who have settled here after fleeing the war in Ukraine. To be eligible, they must have the 769 visa that applies to DP’s from Ukraine. Applications have now closed.
My Home Update November 2022

“My Home” is an extraordinary and immediate response to the housing crisis. Eighteen small low impact homes are currently being built with completion due in February 2023. These will house women over 55, who would otherwise be homeless. Rotary Clubs in District 9455 have undertaken to provide furniture and household goods. There is now the opportunity to make the houses more personal and homely with bedding, linen, towels, kitchen equipment, etc. Help has come from many areas but further funding is needed. See how you can help.

Our major project, the weekly Stirling Farmers Market, provides an invaluable service and has established our club as a visual presence in the local community. It is also serves as a fundraiser, which enables us to support our many Community, Environment, International, Vocational and Youth Service Projects as well as respond to Disaster Relief causes.
