Honorary Membership to Tony Bayliss

Retiring member Tony Bayliss joined the Rotary Club of Karrinyup forty three years ago in February 1977, making him our second longest serving member after Charter Member Ian McDonagh. During his many long years with us, Tony has served the club in many different capacities. He was named a Paul Harris Fellow in 1991-1992 and received a Sapphire Pin in 2015-2016 for his huge contribution to the Earbus project. President Richard Prunster was delighted to present Tony with Honorary Membership of the Rotary Club of Karrinyup.

Rotary Employment Project in WA

Jenni Wilke introduced our guest speaker Amy Perrie from 'Inclusion Solutions', a mentoring, training and consultancy service, which supports the work and objectives of Inclusion WA, a not-for-profit organisation with a proud 25 plus year history. Amy spoke to us about the Rotary Employment Project, which aims to find opportunities within the community that connect individuals to employment, based on their interests and skill sets.

Presentation of Board of Directors for 2020-2021

Looking ahead, the creation of an inaugural Earth Committee will set the Club direction and promote environmental strategies and projects into the future. Rotary International recently announced their seventh new area of focus: supporting the environment. Always in the vanguard of new ideals, the Rotary Club of Karrinyup has already embraced this. President Richard presented the Board of Directors for the 2020 - 2021 year with a special welcome to new Director Jenni. This hard working team will take on the responsibility and care of the club during this Rotary year.

Summary of the 2019 - 2020 Rotary Year

President Richard stated that this evening marked the end of a chapter for the Club, as it is traditionally the time for a changeover dinner. The Board had previously agreed that due to the impact of COVID19, a formal changeover would not occur at this time. Instead a formal Gala Evening is being planned, where members and guests are invited to celebrate the 2019-2020 Rotary Year and where Club awards will be presented. More information and invitations on this will be sent in the very near future.

Karrinyup Community Mens Shed Celebrates Two Years

The RC Karrinyup's major Community Service project, the Karrinyup Community Men's Shed, has now been flourishing at 6 Jedda Road, Balcatta for two years.  The RC Karrinyup has provided considerable funding for the establishment of the Shed, which is now self-sufficient on an operational basis.  Men’s Sheds provide a safe and busy environment where men from all walks of life can discover new experiences in an atmosphere of old-fashioned mateship.

2020 Nurse of the Year

The RC Karrinyup Nurse of the Year Award was created in 1990 to honour outstanding nurses and midwives working at the Osborne Park Hospital (OPH). This annual Award recognises a nurse (or midwife), whose daily dedication and care epitomises the highest standard of quality and personal commitment. The winner of the 2020 RC Karrinyup Osborne Park Hospital Nurse of the Year Award is Lisa Summers. This Award is highly regarded by the staff and promoted extensively by the Hospital. Congratulations Lisa!

Stirling Farmers Market is Back

RC Karrinyup is delighted to announce that, starting on Sunday 3rd May, our Stirling Farmers Market has been allowed to open BUT with quite a few differences in place. While once again our community is able to access fresh produce, the market is not yet a place to socialise, as we still need to practice social distancing. Please follow the new guidelines and, for the time being, come and shop alone, then leave without stopping for a chat.

RC Karrinyup Pandemic Plan Update

Unfortunately our venue is no longer allowed to host our face to face meetings because of new restrictions advised by Government. As per the Club’s Coronavirus Pandemic Response Plan, commencing this coming Wednesday 25th March, all future meetings are held online only until further notice. It will be possible to log in via zoom at the usual meeting time. Our new 'venue' is now advertised on our website and, as always, visitors are still welcome to join us.

RC Karrinyup Coronavirus Pandemic Plan

With the escalation in the activity around the Coronavirus (COVID19) Pandemic that is affecting the globe, on our doorstep and recent government decisions, which will affect our Rotary Club. The Club acknowledges the importance of the welfare of our members. The Western Australia (WA) Government has announced a State of Emergency along with a formal public health emergency over the Coronavirus Pandemic and confirming that there was still no evidence of community transmission in WA.
