Official Introduction to Viki
Rotary Youth Exchange (RYE) Coordinator Trish Lynch introduced our 2024-2025 Inbound RYE student Viki, from Austria. Viki has been an active member of our club since her arrival in Perth in late July. Our students' presentations, where they describe themselves and their home country, are always most interesting and Viki's presentation was quite amazing.
Viki told us a little about herself, her hometown, about her county Austria and life and culture in Austria.
About Viki: Viki Herczegh is fifteen years old. In her spare time she likes to run, cook, paint and read. She included photos of her family and a surfing trip to Portugal with her friends as well as her pets.
Viki's Hometown: Viki comes from Proleb, a small town with a population of 1651, near the city of Leoben in central Austria on the Mur River. Proleb has great woods for going for a run or picking strawberries in the summer.
Austria: Viki shared a little of Austria's long and varied history from its ancient roots in Roman times to becoming a neutral republic in 1955 and a member of the European Union in 1995. Vienna is the capital, the colours of the flag are red and white, the national symbol is the black eagle and the currency is the Euro, which is about 1.62 Australian dollars. It is interesting to compare its size with Western Australia. The whole country is around 600 kms in width, about the distance from Perth to Kalgoorlie.
Life in Austria: Viki highlighted various aspects of life in Austria including famous Austrian companies, celebrities, traditional national dress, foods, flora and fauna, pastimes and traditions.
Members found Viki's interactive presentation, which included an amazing collage of photos depicting the various points, to be most professional. Because of the size a pdf is included here for viewing pleasure.
