Hands on with Borderless Friendship in Thailand

As part of our International funding, Karrinyup Rotary contributes to the Borderless Friendship Foundation WA (BFF WA), a Perth based not-for-profit organisation, which supports children in the hostels in the Hilltribe region of Thailand.

In November 2024, Karrinyup Rotary Members Sandra, Jane and Jenni visited the Hilltribe children in Thailand, escorted by Lorel and Tony from BFF WA.

Karrinyup Rotary sponsors four children in the Hill Tribes. In addition, several members privately support several other children. It was a wonderful experience to, not only meet the children, but to witness first-hand the amazing work done by this amazing organisation..

The Rotarians visited all four of the hostels in the region, as well as some university and tertiary education centres, to meet some of the children, who had graduated to these institutions.

The hostels ensure a safe environment for the children and also provide them with food, clothing, health care and education, all in a very loving environment.

The children were all very happy and very welcoming, especially knowing that the visitors were from a Rotary club. Rotary International is a great supporter of the Hill Tribe hostels, being well aware of the wonderful work that is carried out there.

As well as sponsoring the children Rotary Karrinyup donated funds to purchase mushroom walls for all four hostels and money to buy a breeding pig for one.

The children in the Hill Tribe hostels are for the most part stateless and are all trying to get Thai citizenship. The Rotary Club of Karrinyup has also funded the application for one of their sponsored children to apply for citizenship. This opportunity does not come up often, so when it does it is best to act quickly.

Tours to the hostels can be arranged through Borderless Friendship Foundation WA. These are limited each year and the hands-on experience is highly recommended to appreciate the wonderful work being carried out by BFFWA.

There is a successful sponsorship program for more than 380 hill tribe children in BFF’s care. Several of our club members have chosen to sponsor an individual child. Read how you could too.
