2025 Support for AEN WA

Vocational Service Director Kay Durrant introduced Irene Walker, Executive Officer of the Apprentice Employment Network WA (AEN WA). This peak organisation supports group training providers right across Western Australia. The network has helped more than 10,000 young people begin apprenticeships and traineeships, connecting them with real opportunities and future careers.

Kay explained that Vocational Service in Rotary is all about helping people develop their skills, find meaningful careers, and build confidence in their work. At Karrinyup Rotary, we are proud to support a variety of occupations, including nurses, allied health workers, emerging tradespersons and workers in child and family support. We recognise effort, compassion, and the difference people make through their work. Kay acknowledged vocational team members Carolyn Prunster and Sue Eccles for their service on AEN WA's Awards of Excellence judges panel and their selection of the recipients of Karrinyup Rotary Special Recognition.

Irene, a wonderful partner to our club, has assisted the team in creating and growing the Karrinyup Rotary Special Recognition program, which highlights the hard work and dedication of outstanding apprentices and trainees, who are finalists in the AEN WA Annual Awards of Excellence. This year, the club supported ten outstanding finalists from across the Awards categories as assessed by the Vocational Service team. Congratulations to Adrian, Hayley, Tahlia, Mitchell, Nicole, and Ryder, as well as Tayla, Hardey, Meeya and Ava, who were unable to be present. Irene then introduced and shared a synopsis of each of the six recipients present.

Each spoke briefly about their experiences, shared their goals and thanked Karrinyup Rotary for the supporting vouchers, which would enable them to purchase essential work items.

Irene expressed her appreciation to Karrinyup Rotary for the ongoing support, especially the Vocational Service team and to Co-President Mick Rogers and Sue Eccles for their attendance at the Awards of Excellence evening.
