2025 - 2026 Paul Harris Fellow Recognition
The Rotary Foundation helps fund our humanitarian activities, from local service projects to global initiatives. During the 1950's the Trustees of The Rotary Foundation were trying to encourage Rotarians to donate to the Foundation. They decided to honour those, who had donated US$1000 in one gift, by giving them a special form of public recognition and calling them 'Paul Harris Fellows'. This is still the original intention. The Rotary Foundation and those donations are what enables Rotarians to carry on a world-wide program of educational and humanitarian programs.
Many clubs, including RC Karrinyup, contribute significant amounts from fundraising activities to The Rotary Foundation. For each US$1000 contributed the club earns credits. The club may decide to use these credits to honour an individual whose life demonstrates a shared purpose with the objectives and mission of The Rotary Foundation - to build world understanding and peace. The honour is not given lightly.
Carol O’Lone joined the club in 2023, and the same year, along with a group of Karrinyup Rotary members, visited Tranby Hub to enquire about volunteering. It was Carol who stepped up to organise a team to provide support on a weekly basis. Various members worked with the team over time, but it was Carol, who was the organiser and team leader. Tranby is particularly grateful to Carol for stepping up as team leader and for her ongoing commitment over the years. In addition to Tranby, Carol was instrumental in assisting with this year’s Lift the Lid Walk, which was a fantastic success, raising funds for Rotary Mental Health.
John Maker joined Karrinyup Rotary in May 2022, has twice been named as the recipient of the Graham Fosbery Presidential Award and is currently President Elect for the next 30 minutes. John is a stalwart at the SFM, where he has also been responsible for an increase in raffle sales. John is a whizz at computers and digital technology and has helped safeguard our Club’s documents. He consistently runs the PowerPoint presentations at most Club Meet-Ups. Most club members have needed to call on John at some stage to fix computer issues. In addition, he is always one of the first to put his hand up to help in so many different events or avenues, with great enthusiasm.
Vic Dennis joined the club in 1990, has served on every committee and has undertaken a variety of roles over the years. He has served many years on the Board, including Club Treasurer (2015-2018) and Club Secretary twice, from 1999-2002 and from 2010-2013. For the past thirteen years, he has provided invaluable assistance to the Stirling Farmers Market manager with the Risk Management Plan, as well as other items of tedious but necessary paperwork. With his vocational background and years of experience serving our club, he is frequently called upon for guidance. He is never one to put himself forward, but is always there to provide ongoing background support. Vic is recognised with a second sapphire pin for his Paul Harris for his ongoing quiet support behind the scenes, where efforts that are not in plain sight are often overlooked.
The generous sacrifice and ‘service above self' contribution to the Club by these members is a testament to their shared purpose with the objectives and mission of Rotary. Each is most worthy of Paul Harris Fellow recognition.
