Award Recognition for Karrinyup Mum

Members Ross Daniel and Vic Dennis recently attended a presentation at Our Lady of Good Council school in Karrinyup, where Tracey Woodward was recogised for her community work with a nomination for the RC Karrinyup Michael Chin Humanitarian Award. Tracy was inspired to reach out to other mums at the school to create the group “Meals by Mums”.

In 2013 while in the city shopping with her daughter Tracy bought a homeless man a burger. That night at dinner Tracy’s daughter said that it was sad that the man couldn’t have lasagne and nice food like their family. This inspired Tracy to create the group “Meals by Mums”. Tracy reached out to mothers from Our Lady of Good Counsel school in Karrinyup, where her children attended. Tracy and the mums began cooking healthy meals and packaging them into individual meal portions. The Group continued to meet each term. Over the years the group has changed with new mums joining.

Approximately six mums spend the day preparing and packaging the healthy meals. Each term the mums prepare between 150 and 200 meals and since they began have prepared over 4,000 meals in total. These have been collected and distributed to the needy across Perth through Shopfront, a drop-in offering support and friendship to people in need. Their services include emergency food and accommodation support.

Ross and Vic are seen here with Tracey and school principal Nic.
