Open Day Rotary Supporting 'My Home'
The “My Home” houses are nearing completion and recently held an Open Day so all could view the project. By the end of May, eighteen formerly homeless women aged 55+ will have a fully-equipped, high quality home. A forever home. This iconic, trail-blazing project is an amazing achievement for Rotary WA and Karrinyup Rotary has played a big part in its journey. President Elect Kay had the task of furnishing the units. Mick was amazing is helping source the right goods and Klaus, Eddy, Nick and Beth all spent time down at North Fremantle, putting together beds, tables or just packing shelves.
The scale, scope and impact of this project is a breath-taking display of philanthropic endeavour. Rotary Supporting “My Home” showcases what Rotary can achieve by working together and engaging the community.
The Rotary Clubs of Karrinyup and Osborne Park have worked together to achieve the initial monies by way of District Grants. Together, as Rotary, we have achieved what no-one else has achieved. Together we have ensured that eighteen women, who have experienced the trauma of homelessness will not only have a house, but will have a fully equipped, comfortable home.
This is truly a demonstration that Rotarians are “People of Action” making a positive difference in the world. It has also been a delight to work with so many beautiful people from the community. Rotary members and their immediate network along the way formed collaborations between the Catholic Women’s League, Soroptimists, Zonta, Claremont Men's Shed and Wanneroo Woodturners.
