EndTrachoma Bags Update April 2024
The EndTrachoma programme, which was started in the eastern states has been very successful in trying to eradicate trachoma in Australia, the only western world country to still have this disease.
In July 2023, Karrinyup Rotary committed to supply 300 toilet kits for children in the Goldfields, to help with education and the eradication of the disease in this area. To date, 200 bags have been shipped with the last 100 scheduled to be transported to the area in May.
The latest statistics for WA show that, as a whole, WA has between 3-5% of children diagnosed with the disease but the Goldfields area has in itself 17.6% of children diagnosed with the disease. It is hoped that, with the help of our toilet bag kits and the further education efforts of the Goldfields team, this disease can be wiped out in the area.
