Golden Project Update April 2024
The Rotary Club of Karrinyup commenced planning for a 50th anniversary project back in 2021. The Golden Project was to be one of significance to celebrate the Club's 50 years of Rotary service. Over time the Golden project morphed into the 'Lake Gwelup Story Trail'.
This is defined as:
A Community Service project that continues building our enviable Fifty years of ‘Social Cohesion’ in our Community. The Story Trail will offer an interactive experience, celebrating Nyoongar culture, environmental and historical stories of Lake Gwelup. The City in partnership with Rotary Club Karrinyup will construct its first Story Trail to celebrate Karrinyup Rotary’s 50th anniversary. This trail will help strengthen connection with place and shape how visitors experience Lake Gwelup.
Historically this area has seen RC Karrinyup’s design and construct the Scout Hall for the 1st Karrinyup Scout Group at Lake Gwelup Reserve (Oct 1985), design and construct the Remembrance Gazebo at Lagonda Drive, Lake Gwelup Reserve (Nov 1998), and design and construct a meeting place for the Mooro County Tour Group to provide seating at Lake Gwelup Reserve for members of their cultural tour groups (Oct 2016).
This phase is to continue our reconciliation focus with a formal Trailhead structure providing an entrance marker and Community focal point for a myriad of trails around Lake Gwelup. The larger vision, of which this is the key element, is to improve the signage that introduces the trails of the site with a structure providing adequate shading to a scale based on expected community use and sympathetic to the natural surrounds. Continue to support the education of the Community.
Earthworks have commenced and the construction schedule for the trailhead for the Lake Gwelup Story Trail is as follows:
- Planned start - 8/04/2024
- Forecast completion - 01/07/2024
- Works will be undertaken by Landscape Elements
