Media Release Support for AEN WA Awards for Excellence October 2022

Members of the Karrinyup Rotary Vocational Service team recently attended the 2022 Apprentice Employment Network of WA Awards for Excellence gala presentation evening, where Director Tess Gardner made presentations of support to the winners. This new project is the result of former Vocational Service Director Kay Durrant’s diligence and understanding of the importance recognizing the need to support young people starting out in their careers.

Media Release Help for Perth Homeless Support Group September 2022

Members of the Karrinyup Rotary Homeless Working Group and friends prepared food and distributed it to the homeless through the Perth Homeless Support Group. On Friday they met at the Perth Homeless Support centre in Bayswater and prepared sandwiches, desserts and packed cakes ready for distribution on Sunday, when the team met at the homeless hub to distribute food, clothing, toiletries and books. This is a very streamlined operation with team leaders organising all aspects of the day. The Perth Homeless Support Group can always use assistance and anyone can volunteer.

Media Release Help for Homeless in Perth July 2022

What started out as simply collecting socks for the homeless this winter grew into something much more, due to the wonderful contributions and generous donations of amazing local residents, as well as support from the Rotary Club of Karrinyup. Working closely with the Perth City Homeless Group, the club’s Homeless Working Group was able to provide, not only over 300 pairs of socks for distribution but also managed to put together 32 backpacks for men and women for donation to the needy. Each backpack carried a tag identifying that it was a donation from the Rotary Club of Karrinyup. These were delivered for distribution by the Perth City Homeless Support Group.

Media Relese OAM to Peter Polain January 2022

Karrinyup Rotary congratulates our esteemed member and Past President Peter Polain, who has been named in the Australia Day honours with an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) for service to the Community in a variety of roles. Peter led the Community Service Committee through numerous major projects including the Karrinyup Community Men's Shed. He took on a pivotal role in founding the Stirling Farmers Market, acted as manager for nine years and is still involved in the Management Committee.

Media Release Renaming Ceremony Dandjoo Koorliny November 2021

Karrinyup Rotary members were proud to attend the renaming ceremony for RDA Carine - Dandjoo Koorliny. The Dandjoo Koorliny Walking Together Social Impact Project is designed and led by Aboriginal leaders to help us all walk together towards the future. Karrinyup Rotary has supported RDA Carine for eighteen years and was integral in converting their need for an all weather facility into a proposal that could be submitted for approval and funding. The facility, which opened in 2019, is now beautifully decorated by local indigenous artists.

Family and Domestic Violence (FDV) conference 'Bringing Children And Young People Into View' is designed to strengthen policy and practice responses for children and young people experiencing family, domestic and sexual violence. The Rotary Clubs of Karrinyup and North Perth have sponsored Pilbara social worker and coordinator counsellor Fay from the Nintarri Centre to attend.

Medis Release SOS in the CoS July 2021

Several weeks ago, Mick, Sandra, Jane and Tess from the RC Karrinyup community service team set out on a mission to provide some relief from the cold for homeless people in the City of Stirling in the form of additional winter clothing. The aim was to collect a quantity beanies, socks, gloves and small blankets to be distributed by the City of Stirling in backpacks. Being 'People of Action', the team gathered items from work and friends and operated a stall to collect donated items from the local community at the Stirling Farmers Market.

Media Release Diversity Scholarship Program Launched 9 March 2021

Karrinyup Rotary is proud and excited to announce the launch of the Vocational Service Diversity Scholarship Program. This project enables young scholars the opportunity to engage with and learn from members across the Rotary family in an environment of leadership and community, where everyone can contribute and benefit. President Richard and Vocational Service Director Kay were thrilled to have Rotary of Crawley’s President Elect Leah, a recipient of a similar scholarship, along for the launch.

Media Release Defibrillator for Street Chaplains 30 October 2020

Street Chaplains had a necessity for a portable defibrillator, which would enable them to administer CPR, when they were required to deal with such emergencies. They approached local MP Tony Krsticevic MLA requesting assistance. Tony contacted RC Karrinyup, who made it happen.

Speed Bumps at the City of Stirling Carpark
As a community service organisation, the Rotary Club of Karrinyup maintains community connections through the positive working relationship with the City of Stirling Councillors and the weekly community service project of the Stirling Farmers Market.

Rotary International Peace Fellowships

Since the program began in 2002, the Rotary Peace Centers have trained more than 1,300 fellows who now work in more than 115 countries. More Centres are planned over the next five years offering the Peace Certificate program in troubled areas including Latin America or Cuba and also the Middle East or North Africa. The aim is to create a regional hub of peace builders with practical skills in mediation and negotiation and to create positive social change. RC Karrinyup's first Peace Scholar Bronwyn Manley is currently studying in the US.
