Induction of President Robyn

At the recent Changeover meeting, President Phil called President Elect Robyn to the podium, inducted her as the forty-fifth President of RC Karrinyup and handed over the chain of office. President Robyn thanked the club for the honour entrusted to her, reiterated the call of the new RI President Barry Rassin from the Bahamas, for Rotary to 'Be the Inspiration' and introduced the Board of Directors of the club for 2018-2018.

2017 - 2018 President's Report

Outgoing President Phil delivered his report for the 2017-2018 Rotary year, summarizing the work and achievements of RC Karrinyup over the past twelve months and mentioning just a few of the highlights. He has been honoured to serve as president this year felt sure that our club has realised Rotary International's 2017 - 2018 goal of 'Rotary making a difference'.

2017 - 2018 Graham Fosbery President’s Award

At the recent RC Karrinyup Changeover Dinner, the prestigious Graham Fosbery President’s Award for 2017-2018 was presented to Ross Daniel for another unstinting and wonderful year of Rotary service to the Karrinyup Rotary Club. The award is given each year by the President to a person considered to have made an outstanding contribution to the club. Rotary District 9455 DG Charles Johnson presented the award.

Donation to Interplast 2018

Interplast, which exists to repair bodies and rebuild lives, is supported by Rotarians in clubs and districts throughout Australia and New Zealand.  The Rotary Club of Karrinyup has provided ongoing support for many years. Rotary District 9455 Interplast Coordinator Steve Dixon attended our meeting this week to receive our Club's annual donation. Steve thanked the club on behalf of Interplast and gave an update on some of the recent projects.

SCKATE Update June 2018

Community members are very familiar with Jenny Gartrell and her second hand bookstall seen regularly at the Stirling Farmers Market in aid of Southern Cross Kenya Aid to Educate. RC Karrinyup has long been a supporter of the project and this week International Committee member Ken presented Jenny with the club's annual donation. Jenny was very grateful  and provided us with an update on the school in Mombassa, Kenya.

Mens Shed Set to Go

The first meeting of the Karrinyup Community Mens Shed held recently at the approved site, the former Balcatta pre Primary School at 6 Jedda Road Balcatta, was a great success with over forty men attending. The steering committee now has a lease from the City of Stirling for commencement on 1st June. If you missed the meeting or want more information please contact Peter on 0478 215 692 or Tony on 0400 504 144 for more information. There is no age limit maximum or minimum.

Support for Passages 2018

Passages Resource Centre is a referral service for homeless or street present young people between the ages of 12 and 25. The Rotary Club of Karrinyup was proud to support the Rotary Club of Perth’s recent Passages Race Day as a Silver Sponsor. All funds raised, over $68,000, through ticket sales and auctions are directed towards assisting street present young people through information, programs and referrals.

Earbus Official Kimberley Launch

RC Karrinyup's major 40th anniversay project, the Earbus, was designed to work in the Kimberley region of our state. The purpose built vehicle was completed and handed over to the Earbus Foundation in April of 2017 and has been hard at work in the Goldfields and other areas ever since. The State Government has now committed funds to expand the Earrbus program to the Kimberley with the official launch set to take place on 18th May in Kununurra. Our Earbus has finally 'come home' to work in the land for which it was intended.

Preparing for Kokoda

Under a benefactors trust, in conjunction with the North Beach RSL Sub-branch, RC Karrinyup will sponsor two young Australians to participate in an organised commemorative tour of the Kokoda trek in June. The applicants were required to demonstrate a genuine interest in Australia’s military history. At our meeting this week, David Singer and Drew Sweet introduced themselves and told us why they will embrace this gruelling undertaking and why it holds a special significance for each of them.

2018 Nurse of the Year

The RC Karrinyup Nurse of the Year Award was created in 1990 to honour outstanding nurses and midwives working at the Osborne Park Hospital (OPH). This annual Award recognises a nurse (or midwife) whose daily dedication and care epitomises the highest standard of quality and personal commitment. The winner of the 2018 RC Karrinyup Osborne Park Hospital Nurse of the Year Award is Jennifer Pitcher. This Award is highly regarded by the staff and promoted extensively by the Hospital.  Congratulations Jennifer!
