Induction of President Phil

President Trish called President-Elect Phil to the podium and inducted him as the forty-fourth president of the Rotary Club of Karrinyup.  She stated the club was confident Phil would carry out him tasks with the same zeal he has always shown in Rotary and that he was assured of the utmost cooperation from every one of the members.

She then handed over the Presidential Chain of Office to Phil, congratulated him and wished him a happy and rewarding year offering a few words of advice from Arthur Ashe: 'Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can'.

President Phil then addressed members and guests. He congratulated Trish on her successful year as the Club’s 43rd President, saying that she has a great passion for our club and her success is well deserved. He went on:

'It is exactly 30 years since I last stood here, at another venue, and was inducted as President by Ian McDonagh. What a thrill that was! My aims and thoughts have not changed much since that day. It is still a great honour to be President of this club, one of the best in the state of WA, as it always has been.

My priorities today, as they were 30 years ago, will be to continue and explore new projects and further develop the friendships within the club. It is these connections within our club that hold us together, it is these friendships that drive our members to attend our meetings and to assist in our projects both here and overseas.

We will continue to make our meetings lively and interesting and we need our members to attend them, together with their partners and friends. It is essential to remember that the club is the essence of Rotary.

The new World President, Australian Ian Riseley, says, we are “Making a Difference” and our club certainly is Making a Difference with a fantastic blend of youth and experience. These are the best clubs, those with a blend of youth and experience. I admit I belong to the “experienced group” but experience can be a great asset. I certainly hope so for this year.

I would like to extend special thanks, firstly to Russell Stokes for being a fabulous MC tonight, Vic Dennis who made sense of the complicated list of attendees and collected their money, and of course my wife, Annette, who has supported me through all my Rotary endeavours for over 45 years, and life at large since I was 17 years of age. Also, of course, all of you who attended tonight, I hope you enjoyed yourselves.'

President Phil then presented his Board of Directors for the 2017 - 2018 year together with Membership Coordinator Brian Bracanin.
