RC Karrinyup Welcomes New Member Hilary
At our recent weekly meeting, the Rotary Club of Karrinyup was delighted to induct and welcome new member Hilary.
Hilary was born and raised in Northern Rhodesia – now Zambia. She moved with her young family to the UK in 1977 and subsequently to Australia in 1981. She trained in secretarial duties and worked as a Secretary and Personal Assistant to various managers in the mining and manufacturing industry in Zambia.
She has always been interested in needlecrafts as a hobby and in later years enjoyed working in a craft store over for over fifteen years, where she taught various needlecraft techniques. Since then she has continued to explore other avenues of machine and handwork including toy making.
For some years, Hilary also promoted a music program designed to help children and adults with learning and hearing difficulties and has presented on this subject at a number of Rotary clubs.
Hilary would very much like to use her sewing skills and experience in teaching to instruct new immigrants especially refugee women and children so they can not only be empowered in learning a new skill but also become more integrated into their local community.
Keen to assist our club in whatever way she can, Hilary has already volunteered her time at the Stirling Farmers Market.
She will serve on the Vocational Service committee.
