Vale Andrew Guilfoyle
The Rotary Club of Karrinyup mourns the passing of City of Stirling Hamersley Ward Councillor Andrew Guilfoyle. Andrew was dedicated to his community and as such was a strong supporter of a number of our club's Community Service Projects. Together with his wife Rina, he attended a number of the clubs social functions and is seen here at our 2017 Club Birthday celebration with 2016 - 2017 President Trish Lynch.
Andrew particularly supported those projects involving conservation of the environment and introduced the Hamersley Community Garden to us with the hope that we may be able to build a roof over a seating area.
In 2017, Rotary World President - Australia's Ian Riseley introduced the Rotary World Tree Planting Project calling on every Rotarian to plant a tree during the 2017 - 2018 Rotary year. Our club was assisted in this endeavour by Andrew, who arranged staff and trees to be available from the City of Stirling. Rotarians and supporters were able to plant over seventy five small plantings at the Carine Open Space. Andrew together with his family also participated in the project on the day and the trees are now growing very well under the care of the City of Stirling.
When the lease for the Stirling Farmers Market, our clubs main community service project and chief fund raiser, was due for renewal, it was Andrew who championed the cause at Council Meetings with the result that there was total Council support for the renewal of the market lease.
The Board and members of Rotary Club of Karrinyup wish to express our condolences to Andrew's family, as well as to his colleagues at the City of Stirling. He will be sadly missed. Read the tribute from the City of Stirling
