RC Karrinyup Welcomes Elise

The RC Karrinyup was delighted this week to welcome 2019 - 2020 Inbound Rotary Youth Exchange student Elise from Belgium. It has been a busy week for Elise, who attended a briefing weekend, took an orientation tour of Perth, shopped for her school uniform and attended her first day at Warwick SHS.

At our meeting this week, Elise's mentor Kay introduced her to club President Richard, who formally welcomed her to the club and to Perth. During her year in Perth, Elise will stay with several different host families in order to broaden her cultural experience of our country.

Youth Committee member Vic presented Elise with a specially prepared 'Australian Survivial' kit containing such items as her Rotary Club name badge, cap and polo shirt, vegemite, Tim Tams, a lot of different Australian snacks, tea and pins for her blazer, as an introduction to our culture. Eagles fans at the meeting noted the pack also included a Fremantle Dockers scarf. It is understood Elise has already received Eagles paraphernalia. It will be interesting to see which group of fans are the first to take her to an AFL match!

RC Karrinyup has supported Rotary Youth Exchange for most of our forty five years. Australian Outbound students leave and return each January, while Inbound students arrive and depart each July.
