Support for RYLA 2021
The Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) program offers young men and women between the ages of 18 and 25 years an opportunity to attend a residential seminar designed to develop their leadership skills. Activities such as abseiling, rock climbing, hiking and camping out, presentation skills, conflict resolution, yoga and discussions on social issues are just part of the week long program. The seminar qualifies the candidates for a Certificate 1 in Leadership from TAFE.
Businesses, in consultation with a Rotary Club, can also nominate and sponsor suitable candidates. RC Karrinyup sponsored three participants to the 2021 RYLA program held recently - Phoebe Earnshaw, Abdiwahab Hillow and Audrey Repsevicius. Representatives from the club attended the final night dinner and presentation to support our candidates. The meal and entertainment were prepared entirely by the participants themselves.
It was an opportunity for all the participants to thank various Rotary clubs for their support and to thank the many volunteers, who ran the course for the week. All participants spoke with passionate enthusiasm of their experiences and the lessons learnt in the week they spent at the Bickley Outdoor Recreation Camp. They were inspired by the challenges to step outside their comfort zones and to learn from themselves and the volunteers.
