2016 Marshals for Gwellup PS Fun Run

It was a busy long weekend for Community Service Director, Peter (right) seen here with the Coordinator and Course Marshall, Sophie and RC Karrinyup volunteer Colin, at the Lake Gwelup Fun Run held annually on WA Day.

The event is a Fun Family Day. You can walk or run the 3 km or 6 km Fun Run and there's food, stalls, games, live music and more. Our Rotary Club of Karrinyup (District 9455) members act as course marshalls for the Fun Run and have done for many years. Just another aspect of the club serving our local community and the volunteers enjoyed a great morning in the carnival atmosphere.

Also this weekend the Club ran our regular weekly gig, the Stirling Farmers Market on Sunday. Always a busy club, but we have a great time doing what we do. By a special effort, the raffle sales have increased significantly.

Peter also outlined the club's involvement with Multiple Sclerosis WA, Trigg Island Surf Life Saving Club, Star Swamp, the Red Shield Appeal and Courage to Lead.  Stirling City Council was helped by a sausage sizzle run by our club, to welcome refugees.

The Michael Chin award was presented.  Bowelscan had fewer applicants this year, but still a satisfactory project.

Riding for the Disabled has received much practical help from club members contributing manpower rather than just money.

Two Stirling City Councillors will try to negotiate a settlement for the Men's Shed, because of local objections.  Other sites are being investigated.
