Stroke Week Community Service

The week from 3rd - 9th September was designated as National Stroke Week. Thousands of Stroke Week activities took place in communities across the country including information stalls and health checks.

The Stroke Foundation is aiming to ensure that every Australian household has someone, who knows the signs of stroke and what to do and there will be huge media coverage to ensure to word reaches far and wide.

Rotary is supporting this initiative in spreading the word and, as part of our service to the local Community, the RC Karrinyup hosted an information stall at the Stirling Farmers Market on Sunday 9th September with free blood pressure checks offered as a service to the community. We were assisted in this service by Rotaracter Sarah.

Of the 45 customers assessed, 9 were found to be in a high risk category and a further 7 at moderate risk. These were advised to visit their GP ASAP. Many other customers stopped by to ask questions and pick up brochures on how to reduce their stroke risk.

If you are part of a social group and would like a Strokesafe Ambassador to speak to your group you can request a speaker from the Stroke Foundation.

Ensure you, your family and friends are StrokeSafe. The life you save could be your own.
