Invitation to Karrinyup Community Mens Shed Open Day
The RC Karrinyup's major Community Service project, the Karrinyup Community Men's Shed, has now flourishing at 6 Jedda Road, Balcatta for almost a year and the guys are celebrating the shed’s 1st birthday with an open day on 21 June between 8:30 am and 12:30 pm to welcome interested visitors and to invite new members.
The Shed offers a variety of modern machines and tools to suit those with interests in woodworking, wood-turning, model-making, arts/crafts and gardening. Many other interests can be accommodated as the imagination of members dictates. There are no pre-requisite skills requirements.
Membership of a shed is about feeling good about yourself, being productive and contributing to your community, achieving personal enrichment, connecting with new friends and maintaining an active body and mind.
Men’s Sheds provide a safe and busy environment where men from all walks of life can discover new experiences in an atmosphere of old-fashioned mateship. Most importantly, there is no managerial hierarchy, no production targets and no pressure. Men can just come and have a yarn and a cuppa, if that is all they want.
Situated in Balcatta, the Karrinyup Community Men’s Shed fit-out is almost complete, thanks to initial funding support from RC Karrinyup matched to grants from government agencies. One such grant from the Department of Veterans Affairs supports the inclusion of veterans in our membership; however, we have no selection processes or qualification pre-requisites – members come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences.
So, why not come along on 21 June, have a cuppa and see for yourself what it's about?
