Camp Quality Update 2020
Ross Daniel introduced Nadine Magill, State Manager of Camp Quality since 2018. In previous years, Nadine, who is a passionate advocate of the not for profit sector and everything it stands for, worked for the charity as Fund Raising and Events Coordinator. She is motivated by people, who want to make a difference in the lives of others.
Nadine explained how Camp Quality services and programs are made specifically to help children 0 - 13, who are dealing with their own diagnosis, or the diagnosis of someone they love, like a brother, sister, mum or dad. These kids have had their childhood stolen and Camp Quality aims to provide some quality of life for them, hence the name.
By creating positive memories, Camp Quality helps change the cancer story for kids and their families. The programs and services support kids and their families:
- In hospital – through our Family Program Coordinators, who visit children diagnosed with cancer in hospitals and play an active role in introducing families to Camp Quality services and programs
- At home – through two apps: our award-winning app “A Kids Guide To Cancer” and recently-launched app “The New Normal Navigator”
- At school – through our Primary School Program with puppets Kylie, Dean and Mel.
- Away from it all – at Family Camps, Kids Camps, Retreats, Family Fun Days and Family Fun Experience.
Camp Quality runs overnight Kids camps in every state for 7-13 year olds in addition to single day Mini Camps for 4-6 year olds. Each kid has the support of a dedicated Companion (an adult volunteer) during their time on Camp. In recent years, RC Karrinyup members have volunteered their time to connect with kids and staff in these camps.
All services are provided free of charge to the families. Camp Quality's 2020 Fundraising Goal is $750,000. Nadine emphasised that all funds raised in WA stay in WA. The aim to to achieve this through four communication themes throughout the year: Education, Friendship, Community and Memories. Nadine thanked the club for ongoing support over the years.
RC Karrinyup members will be given the opportunity to again participate in a camp in October. View all details of Nadine's presentation.
