2023 Michael Chin Humanitarian Award
Dr. Michael Chin, a long serving General Practitioner in the Karrinyup area, was a charter member of the Rotary Club of Karrinyup serving the Club in various roles and was the first member of our Club to be named a Paul Harris Fellow. He passed away in 1998. The Michael Chin Humanitarian Award was created in 2000, in his name, to honour outstanding individuals, who serve the community and those in need, for their humanitarian and volunteer activities. Recipients are those whose daily dedication epitomises the highest standard of quality and personal commitment.
RC Karrinyup is pleased to announce the 2023 recipient of the Dr Michael Chin Humanitarian Award is Valerie Bull. Valerie was nominated by Meggan Harders, Branch Librarian, City of Stirling Library Dianella. For over thirty-six years, Val has volunteered as a Selector for the Dianella Library’s Books on Wheels (BOW) home delivery service. In doing so she enables access to libraries for those in the community, who are unable to attend the library in person, either because of disability, age, or injury. Val takes the time to get to know each recipient's reading interests. The home delivery service would not be possible without Val's continued support, contribution, and dedication. She has consistently and reliability volunteered her time over so many years to enhance the connection and belonging of those disadvantaged in the community.
Dr Michael Chin's two sons Anthony and Peter Chin, presented the award at the recent Karrinyup Rotary 49th birthday dinner. As Val was unable to attend, Meggan accepted the award on her behalf. Val received her award surrounded, by the library staff two days later. The Rotary Club of Karrinyup is delighted to recognise Valerie as a most worthy recipient of the 2023 Michael Chin Humanitarian Award.
