RC Karrinyup Rotary Welcomes Viki

Karrinyup Rotary was delighted to welcome 2024 - 2025 Inbound Rotary Youth Exchange (RYE) student Viki from Austria. While Viki has been in Perth a few weeks now, this was her first formal opportunity to meet club members at a meeting. She told us that she has been to King's Park and to the beach and attended a briefing weekend for RYE Inbound students.

She is attending Warwick SHS and has already helped out volunteering at the Stirling Farmers Market. During her year in Perth, Viki will stay with several different host families in order to broaden her cultural experience of our country. She was pleased that she has already had the opportunity to meet them all.

Youth Committee member and Viki's mentor Trish Lynch presented her with a specially prepared 'Australian Survival' kit containing such items as her Rotary Club name badge, cap and polo shirt, milo, tim tams, pins for her blazer and an Aussie flag, as an introduction to our culture. Eddy had already supplied her with Vegemite at the airport on arrival and of course, with Trish as her mentor, there was also an Eagles shirt! Viki has already been introduced to barracking for the Eagles at an AFL match.

RC Karrinyup has supported Rotary Youth Exchange for most of our fifty years. Australian Outbound students leave and return each January, while Inbound students arrive and depart each July.
