2025 London International Science Forum

Daniel Stayt, attended the 2025 London International Youth Science Forum (LIYSF), jointly sponsored through collaboration of the Karrinyup and Scarborough Rotary Clubs. Scarborough Community Service Director Jerry Pilcher is seen here with Daniel and Karrinyup's Youth Director Eddy Giacomel. Currently studying Frontier Physics at UWA, Daniel was Karrinyup Rotary's 2024 National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) participant in Canberra, while in his final year at Warwick SHS.

The London International Youth Science Forum (LIYSF) is a two-week STEM summer camp for 16 - 21-year-old students, held at the Imperial College in London. Daniel told us there were around 500 students attending from more than 90 countries around the world at the 2025 camp. Lectures were given by world-class researchers in their respective fields. There were visits to scientific institutions, including some at Oxford and Cambridge universities. There were also social events enabling the students to meet new people from all over the world.

Without going into scientific details, Daniel briefly described some of the lectures and scientific visits. He then outlined what he had learned:

  • that there are many topics he had never previously considered, such as vaccinology and psychology,
  • about some of the current problems in science and research on these topics,
  • that he loves and wants to live in Europe in the future.

Daniel expressed his sincere appreciation to the Rotary Clubs of Karrinyup and Scarborough for their sponsorship and to Gemma Chatterton, Head of Science at Warwick SHS, who was the referee on his application.
