Rotary Youth Exchange Opens Doors for Megan
Megan Walters was RC Karrinyup’s 2012 Outbound Rotary Youth Exchange student to Brazil. Since leaving on her adventure her mother reports that she has not stopped amazing her family.
On her return to WA she decided to spend a year at home before enrolling at University. She took up a traineeship at the Kununurra Community Resource Centre and joined the Rotary Club of Kununurra. She is also working towards establishing the town's first Rotaract Club.
Megan recently volunteered as a buddy for Rotary District 9455's Camp Opportunity. This is a week long live in camp for 18 to 35 year old people with disabilities, who are teamed with an able-bodied “buddy” for a week of fun and adventure. Inspired by this experience, she began working as a special needs assistant at the local school.
Megan is now being hailed as a Young Star of the Kimberley, having been named the Kimberley Group Training's Trainee of the Year.
RC Karrinyup is proud of all our youth alumni but is especially inspired to hear of Megan’s success. Congratulations, Megan. Well done
