Prestigious Avenues of Service Citation to Karrinyup Rotarian
The strength of the Rotary ideal is founded on the service carried out by club members worldwide and this citation program provides a means for Rotary clubs to personally recognise a club member for outstanding efforts in all of the five Avenues of Service.
Club nominations are submitted by the club President to Rotary International, with a copy to the District Governor.
The nominee must have consistently demonstrated support of the Object of Rotary through participation in service activities in each of the Five Avenues of Service: Club, Vocational, Community, International, and New Generations.
An individual may only receive this award once. There have only ever been twelve Avenues of Service Citations awarded in our Rotary District (formerly 9450 and now 9455), and this is the first time for the Rotary Club of Karrinyup.
District Governor Angus visited for the presentation to our immediate Past President Peter of the prestigious "Avenues of Service" citation.
Peter is well known throughout the District for his Commitment to Youth Service (Avenue #1), in particular through his association with District 9455 Rotary Youth Exchange, as a Mentor with the John Curtin Leadership Academy and the Assistant Governor helping to develop our Rotaract District 9455 W.A. He is also a champion of our Club's new and Indigenous Award-winning Earbus Foundation of WA project - where we are facilitating the provision of a mobile children's diagnostic ear clinic to service the Kimberley area (Vocational Service - Avenue #2). In addition, Peter has been a Past President of the Rotary Club of Karrinyup (District 9455) as well as Club Service Director and has been instrumental in developing our succession plan (Avenue #3 - Club Service).
Peter is a major driver of the Club's International project being developed in Zambia. Last year whilst working in Africa, he visited the country, where our proposed project is to take place, performing valuable research and making connections that will help see it soon become a reality with the help of a Rotary Matching Grant. (Avenue #4 - International Service).
Finally, Peter is also a strong supporter of the many Community Service initiatives of our Club, including the Stirling Farmers Market, the Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal, Lake Gwelup Fun Run, Foodbank WA and has been instrumental in developing an ongoing relationship with the Trigg Island Surf Life Saving Club. He is always one of the first to volunteer his time in support of the Community (Avenue #5 - Community Service).
