Shared Vocational Visit to the WACA

Recently, several members of the Scarborough and Karrinyup Rotary Clubs enjoyed a joint Vocational Visit Tour of the 'WACA'.

The Rotarians met via the pedestrian entry to the WACA Ground at Gate 8, corner of Hay and Braithwaite Streets and onto the Kim Hughes Room, where they received the Royal Treatment and were provided water, tea and coffee along with an amazing tour of the WACA.

The host was Justin Michael, the interim CEO, who provided a presentation on the WACA Ground Improvement Project. The WACA Ground Improvement Project refers to the redevelopment and modernisation efforts taking place at the WACA Ground, which is our very own historic cricket stadium.

The project aims to enhance the facilities and infrastructure of the venue, making it suitable for not only cricket but also other sports and events. Key elements of the WACA Ground Improvement Project typically include:

  • Upgraded Facilities: Modern changing rooms, media facilities, and amenities for players and officials.
  • Spectator Experience: Improvements to seating, sightlines, and overall spectator comfort to enhance the game-watching experience.
  • Multi-Use Space: Development of spaces that can be utilised for various events beyond cricket, such as concerts and other sports.
  • Sustainability: Incorporating sustainable practices and technologies in the redevelopment to ensure long-term environmental benefits.
  • Heritage Considerations: Respecting and preserving the historical aspects of the ground, as it has been an iconic venue for cricket since its establishment.

The project is part of a broader effort to ensure that the WACA remains a significant part of Perth’s sporting culture while adapting to modern requirements and safety standards.
